Dear Microsoft,

I am sorry to have to tell you this but I am breaking up with Windows 8.1. For a long time my friends have laughed at me for being with you and I stood up for you. I have tried my best to stay with you but I just can’t do it, I am going back to my ex OS (Windows 7).

I understand the wish to have a consistent user experience across all of your devices, but I do not think that the tablet/mobile experience translates to the desktop. The updated start menu where screens fly in and around when I open or close an app is giving me motion sickness, I know that I can live my windows life inside of the desktop area but I feel that this defeats the purpose of using a new OS.

I really am hoping that the next big revision of the Windows Operating System focuses more on the desktop, as it stands I am thinking that I will move to OSX (Mac) or Linux so my fingers are crossed for you Microsoft.

Also, I would appreciate it if you could make it easier for me remove Windows 8 from my computer, the process was unnecessarily difficult. One more thing the lock in to Microsoft is getting a bit ridiculous (I do know that other companies are doing it, apple and Google to name a couple) but this does not mean you have to!

This will be the first time that I have ever gone back to a previous version of an OS, I even stuck with Vista when many didn’t even try to use it or they tried and then returned to XP.

I have been a fierce supporter of Microsoft and have been with you since the 80’s, so I really hope that you will think of the users like me who would like you to keep innovating but not at the expense of desktop usability.

What operating system do you use? Let me know by filling out the poll below.
